M88 Managed Clock Engine enables simple system integration and precise, flexible synchronization for Carrier Ethernet and IP broadband infrastructure.
San Jose, January 26, 2016- Qulsar, Inc., an industry leader in precise time synchronization solutions, today introduced the M88 Managed Clock Engine. Developed in close collaboration with Silicon Labs, a premier supplier of high-performance timing solutions, the M88 combines Qulsar’s high precision 1588 PTP packet gateway clock with Silicon Labs’ Si5348 ultra-low jitter network synchronizer. The M88 is a turnkey hardware and software solution that provides IEEE 1588v2 standards-compliant phase and frequency synchronization in a unified, small form factor design.
The M88 includes a flexible multi-sync clock manager, enabling the solution to synchronize to a wide variety of references, including GNSS (1 PPS + ToD), IEEE 1588 (PTP), SyncE and BITS, while simplifying clock input monitoring and management. The M88 incorporates an industry-leading IEEE 1588 servo algorithm to generate the high precision synchronized clock outputs required to distribute precise and accurate timing signals for 4G/LTE and LTE-Advanced radio access networks. The Si5348 provides any-rate frequency synthesis, jitter attenuation and ultra-low jitter clock generation, eliminating the need for discrete, follow-on jitter cleaners. Typical applications include phase and frequency synchronization for wireless infrastructure and wireline broadband networks such as PON, DOCSIS, G.fast DSL and data center switches.
“As radio access network architectures evolve to support the precise synchronization required for LTE-Advanced, mobile backhaul and broadband transport networks increasingly require clocks that can deliver precise time with sub-microsecond performance,” said James Wilson, senior director of marketing for timing products at Silicon Labs. “In collaboration with Qulsar, we have designed a joint timing solution that integrates Qulsar’s industry-leading 1588 PTP servo algorithm with our high-performance, low-jitter network synchronizer clocks, delivering a turnkey gateway clock solution that is fully compliant with ITU specifications (ITU G.8261, G.8273.2, G.8275.1).
With the introduction of the M88, Qulsar is once again proving its commitment to continuously innovate and deliver high performance, feature-rich synchronization solutions for next-gen radio access networks and broadband transport networks. The M88 module is a cost-effective, fully integrated multiple clock output device than can be rapidly and easily integrated in host systems to accelerate time-to-market of broadband infrastructure that needs to deliver multiple synchronized clock streams.” said Rajen Datta, President and CEO of Qulsar, Inc. Qulsar’s M88 Managed Clock Engine (MCE) is sampling today. An evaluation kit is also available. General availability is expected at the end of March 2016.
